Why this size, specifically
The most consequential disagreement on this site. For the same 50m² drive, HomeHow says £2,150 to £2,500 and Checkatrade says £6,000 — nearly three times as much. Checkatrade calls £6,000 the average cost of a medium resin bound driveway in 2026; HomeHow's guide is a year older. If you only read one of them you would think the other was being quoted by a cowboy.
Ask what the quote includes before comparing it
Most of the gap between those two figures is scope. Checkatrade prices a full job including groundwork; HomeHow is closer to a supply-and-lay rate over an existing base. Two quotes for a 50m² drive that differ by £3,000 are usually not pricing the same work.
50m² is where bulk buying starts to help
Checkatrade notes material cost per m² falls as the driveway gets bigger, because of bulk buying. At 50m² you are ordering enough aggregate and resin for that to register — it is one reason the per-m² rate drops from the small band.
Budget for the base honestly
On the published rates, excavating and re-basing 50m² is £1,250 to £2,500 before a drop of resin is laid. That single decision moves a 50m² drive from the bottom of the range to the middle of it.
Groundwork and extras
These are the lines that decide whether a resin drive costs £2,000 or £6,000. Only MyBuilder itemises them; the other guides fold them into the per-m² rate or leave them out entirely.
