Why this size, specifically
Nobody publishes a 40m² figure, so this page brackets it: it sits between MyJobQuote's 30m² band and MyBuilder's 60m² band, and the range here is the published per-m² rates for the medium band multiplied out. Treat it as an interpolation, not a quoted price.
The size where the quotes start to spread
At 40m² a 20 to 30 per cent spread between installers — which is what MyBuilder says to expect for the same job in the same area — is £500 to £1,000 of real money. This is the first size where getting three quotes clearly pays for the afternoon it takes.
Two days, not one
MyJobQuote puts a 30m² install at about two days, and larger drives at two to three. A 40m² job is realistically a two-day job, which means the weather window matters: resin must not be rained on before it sets.
Edging is a bigger line than people expect
A 40m² drive open on three sides needs something like 15 to 20 metres of edging. At the published £15 to £40 per linear metre that is £225 to £800 — on its own, more than the difference between a mid-range and a premium aggregate.
