Why this size, specifically
The worst value per m² of any size on this site, and there is no way round it. A resin crew still has to turn up, set up a forced-action mixer, lay, edge and clear away for a drive a third the size of the next one up — so the fixed costs land on very little area. Checkatrade prices 20m² at £140 per m², against £100 per m² at 100m².
Access matters more than area
On a drive this small the machine and the grab lorry are often the problem, not the laying. A terrace with no side access can mean the old surface comes out by hand and goes down the street in barrows, and that shows up as labour.
Overlaying is worth chasing hard
If the existing tarmac or concrete is sound, laying straight over it skips excavation and sub-base entirely. At 20m² that is roughly £500 to £1,000 of the job gone, on the published excavation and sub-base rates — a much bigger proportion of the total than it would be on a large drive.
Watch the minimum charge
HomeHow notes that some installers apply a minimum fee regardless of size, and may add mileage if the job is outside their usual patch. On a job this small a minimum charge can be most of the difference between quotes.
